FAQ
What is Degenphone?
Degenphone numbers are phone numbers that you own as NFTs on blockchain. They work like regular phone numbers but you buy them once and own them forever instead of paying monthly fees to a carrier.
How do I get a Degenphone number?
You can get a number two ways: buy directly during a sale (minting) or purchase from someone else on the marketplace at degenphone.xyz/market.
Do I need to download an app?
No separate download needed. Access your numbers through the web interface at degenphone.xyz or use the Telegram mini app. Everything works in your browser.
Can I receive SMS with my number?
Yes. SMS works right now. You need to unlock your number first in the dashboard at degenphone.xyz/my-numbers, then you can receive messages from any service.
Can I make or receive calls?
Not yet. Voice calling functionality is currently in development and planned for 2026. Right now the numbers work for SMS only.
Can I use this number to sign up for apps or services?
Yes. Degenphone numbers work with any service that accepts regular phone numbers. This includes exchanges like Binance, social platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.
Who owns the phone number?
You do. When you buy a Degenphone number, you own the NFT which represents permanent ownership of that number. As long as you hold the NFT in your wallet, the number is yours.
Is this anonymous?
Yes. No KYC documents are required to buy or use Degenphone numbers. Your ownership stays private. If a telecom provider reports illegal activity on your number, you may need to provide KYC or the number becomes inactive.
What happens if someone misuses their number?
If the telecom provider reports illegal activity, the user will need to provide KYC verification. If they don't comply within some days, the number becomes inactive. The NFT stays in their wallet but the service stops working.
Can I sell or transfer my number?
Yes. Degenphone numbers are NFTs so you can sell, trade, or transfer them like any other NFT. List them on the marketplace or transfer directly to another wallet.
What wallet do I need to use Degenphone?
For numbers on TON blockchain, you need a TON-compatible wallet. For numbers on other blockchains, you need a wallet that supports the chain. Connect your wallet at degenphone.xyz to access your numbers.
Is there a platform fee?
The marketplace charges 5% on all trades.
Can I manage multiple numbers?
Yes. You can own and manage as many numbers as you want through the same interface. All your numbers appear in your dashboard at degenphone.xyz/my-numbers.
What's the difference between Degenphone and Fragment?
Fragment numbers only work inside Telegram. Degenphone numbers are real eSIM infrastructure that works with any service accepting phone numbers. You can use Degenphone for exchanges, banks, social media, and everything else, not just one app.
What are the benefits of owning a Degenphone number?
You own it permanently with no monthly fees. It works globally with internet connection. You can trade or sell it. No KYC required for privacy. Use it as loan collateral or rent it out for passive income.
Do I need to pay a monthly subscription to use my number?
No monthly subscription. Numbers include 2-5 years of prepaid service depending on tier. After that, a small annual fee keeps it active. If you don't pay, the NFT stays yours and you can reactivate anytime.
What happens if I lose access to my wallet?
You lose access to your number. Degenphone numbers are NFTs stored in your wallet. If you lose your wallet keys, we cannot recover the number for you. Always back up your wallet recovery phrase and store it safely.
What's the difference between Fresh and Recycled numbers?
Fresh numbers have never been activated or used. Recycled numbers were previously activated and used by someone else. Both work the same way, but Fresh numbers have no history with any services.
How can I check if a number was used before buying it?
Use the verification tool at degenphone.xyz/verify. Enter the phone number and it shows whether it's Fresh or Recycled, plus which services it was registered on when detectable. Always check before buying on secondary markets.
Why isn't my number working with a specific service?
Some services block certain number ranges or require numbers from specific countries. Try using the official app instead of web versions, connect via WiFi instead of mobile data, or use a VPN matching the number's country. If you requested codes multiple times, wait 30-60 minutes or up to 24 hours before trying again.
